On Tuesday, August 25, a student at the University of Skövde was taken ill by symptoms similar to the influenza. During Wednesday, the student went for medical treatment and tests were taken. Late Thursday evening, the test results came back confirming that the student has been taken ill by the new influenza, the A (H1N1).
This confirms the first case of the new influenza among the University’s students and staff. The University is now preparing to be able to handle a situation where the disease could force many teachers and students to stay away from work and studies for some time.
As for measures in order to reduce the risk of the spread of contagion, the University has an ongoing dialogue with the company health service and with the doctor in charge of infectious diseases. Students and staff are recommended to stay home should they feel any influenza symptoms. Also, alcohol hand gel is now placed in all restrooms of the school. And there are posters on the campus area showing what the individual should do to reduce the risk of the spread of contagion.
