The Dominican University of California (DUC) is a partner university to the University of Skövde. The collaboration includes an active student exchange between the two universities. Fabian Firanescu is one of the exchange students from the University of Skövde that chose to study for a year at the american university. His student dissertation was recently awarded the price for best poster. He was also appointed Academic Scholar of the Year.
The title of Fabians project is "The Effect of Tamoxifen and Vitamin D on Breast Cancer". The purpose of the research is to study ways to inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells by treating them with tamoxifen, D-vitamine or a combination of the two.
Fabian has also participated at NCUR (National Conference on Undergraduate Research), in La-Crosse, Wisconsin, where he presented his research with other students from different research branches.
Fabian Firanescu don't regret his exchange year in the USA.
-I would like to describe it as a very pleasant experience. The hard academic work that sometimes is required here is easily combined with fun activities and an amazing social life. I'm glad that I took this chance and went to the USA for a whole year and I don't think that I will ever regret that. Definately something that I would whole heartedly recommend.
