Panel - Opportunities, Suspicions & Strategies
To stimulate interactions over various issues in Open Source (OS) and Distributed Development (DD), there will be a panel discussion amongst industry representatives on Opportunities, Suspicions & Strategies in OS and DD.
Panellists
Panel chair, Joe Feller – Calibre researcher, University College Cork, Ireland
Joseph Feller is a Senior Lecturer in Business Information Systems, University College Cork, Ireland. His work on open source software includes co-authorship of two books (Perspectives on Free and Open Source Software, The MIT Press, 2005 and Understanding Open Source Software Development, Addison-Wesley, 2002) as well as international conference and journal papers. He co-authored ‘A Framework Analysis of the Open Source Software Development Paradigm,’ which was awarded Best Paper on Conference Theme at the 21st International Conference in Information Systems (ICIS 2000). Joseph was the lead organiser of the IEE/ACM workshop series on Open Source Software Engineering (2001-2005) and has been a speaker/panellist on the topic at academic conferences, industry workshops and European Commission briefings and roundtables. Joseph is a member of the EU FP6 Co-ordination Action project CALIBRE (www.calibre.ie
), co-leading the dissemination and awareness work package and conducting research on open source software business models.
Fredrik Svensson – Redpill AB
Fredrik Svensson is one of five active founders of Redpill AB. Redpill is the first independent IT consultancy company that focus entirely on services and support for Open Source software in Scandinavia. Fredriks current position is Head of Redpills Business System Division. He has previously worked as project manager for numerous implementations of Open Source licensied Business Applications.
Fredrik first came in contact with Open Source software during his spell at a company that developed ERP systems for the Retail industry. The Retail industries focus on cost-effectiveness combined with a relatively complex marketplace, lead to an early interest for the ability of Open Source software to deliver flexible solutions in a cost-effective manner. The insight of the possibilities that OSS can offer when it comes to the above, eventually led to the formation of Redpill AB. Redpill has since then been responsible for verifying Compiere for swedish market requirements, become certified partner for Jboss in Sweden, developed an Open Source licensied POS application called Redpos and been awarded an agreement with the swedish procurement agency – Statskontoret – for delivery of services and support for OSS solutions.
Magnus Glantz - TeliaSonera
Magnus Glantz, IT Engineer & Application specialist
Operation Support Systems (OSS) Application & Network Operation Center Datacom TeliaSonera.
TeliaSonera is the leading telecommunications company in the Nordic and Baltic region and also holds strong positions in mobile communications in Eurasia, Turkey and Russia.
Magnus is working as an IT Engineer and Application specialist at TeliaSonera Sweden, within the OSS Application and Network Operation Center Datacom (NOC Datacom) departments.
The OSS Application department runs many of TeliaSoneras support systems, which is used for surveilence and management of network elements. The departments customers are mostly internal within TeliaSonera, including for example: Network Operation Centrals, technical support departments and customer support centers.
NOC Datacom runs and monitors many of TeliaSoneras IP-networks, globally consisting of over 30 000 network elements. Prior to joining OSS Application and NOC Datacom, Magnus worked at TeliaSoneras Service Management Center where he worked with development of service monitoring systems, IT security and customer support systems.
Patrik Fransson, WM-data
Patrik Fransson is the manager of WM-data's Application Centres in
Sweden. WM-data Application Centres deliver application management to
several of Sweden's leading companies. In order to increase efficiency
and create collaboration between their Application Centres, WM-data are
using the fundamental principles and tools for distributed development
based on Open Source. Their distributed development platform is
currently used to create business to a volume in excess of 1.5 Billion SEK.
Patrik Fransson has 15 years of experience in this business area, and
has had a number of leading roles in WM-data, been CIO for H&M Hennes &
Mauritz (1997-2000), and CEO for the Open Source company CodeFactory AB
(2000-2002).
Interactive sessions
To stimulate interactions between all participants in the event there will be interactive sessions facilitated by practitioners and Calibre researchers. Each session will be lead by a practitioner, and seconded by a Calibre researcher.

Session lead by Per Wennman – Modul 1
Per Wennman is one of the founders of Sprawl Solutions, the company that developed the InfoGlue CMS platform (http://www.infoglue.org
) jointly with a customer. InfoGlue was released as Open Source software in February 2003. Per has been the business strategist behind the platform development, in concert with keeping the small company’s systems development business running. Since releasing InfoGlue CMS most projects within Sprawl Solutions have been built around the InfoGlue platform. Per has acted as project leader and requirement analyst in the development of the InfoGlue CMS platform and in most of the projects built on the platform after it became open source. Per is also a cofounder of the platform’s open source community, where he still is active.

Session lead by Anders Mattsson – Combitech Systems AB
Anders Mattsson has worked as a software developer in real-time embedded systems for more than fifteen years. He is Lead Engineer at Combitech, specialized in model driven development and software architecture. He has long experience from leading change towards more efficient ways to build embedded systems in large and medium sized companies. A current field of interest is the potential of using OSS tools and components to reduce cost and cut development time.
