The importance of well functioning logistic flows is evident today when not only companies compete but rather supply-chains. In the production area lean- and other approaches have increased the rate of change but there is still a large improvement potential in logistics.
The Logistics Groups research center around Supply Chain Management and production logistics, specifically, the research interest is on logistic service providers, production logistics with focus on material flow, and change management in logistics, with the aim to advance theory and practice. The areas of application are business, manufacturing industry, and healthcare, and the research is well in line with the applications and professional roles in logistics.
The main incentive of logistics today is the potential to reduce waste, improve service quality, and increase cooperation between actors in the supply chain. There are several highly successful cases in Sweden of companies, which have mastered their logistic processes to create a competitive advantage. The theories that are part of the research at the logistics group are Lean thinking (manufacturing, supply chain, and administration), Six Sigma (in healthcare, industry, and administration), and simulation (Discrete-Event Simulation, System Dynamics, and Agent Based Modeling).
During 2007-2008 the Logistics Research Group published 8 international journal articles.
The main competencies of the group are:

• Improvement methods in logistics (Lean and Six Sigma)
• Supply and Demand Chain Management
• E-business
Education
The logistics group are currently providing two education programmes. The first program “Industrial Management and Logistics” combines courses within logistics and business administration while the second program “E-logistics and IT” combines courses within logistics and information systems. Within the logistics area the group provides approximately 20 courses.
