Welcome to the University of Skövde! We are pleased that you have been approved for studies at our university. It is a very good idea to read through the information found here and the Student Guide ECTS, but there are a few things we want to especially remind you of.
Full time studies
In order to be considered as a full time student, the Notification of Selection Results that you have received through your studera.nu account must state that you are going to study 30 ECTS for one semester/60 ECTS for two semesters, because of visa and residency permit requirements.
Tuition Fee
For students from outside of EU/EEA, the tuition fee must be paid in order to obtain a study visa and to be able to register at the University. Note however that you should apply for your visa as soon as you are admitted. The Migration Board will start handling your application as soon as they recieve it and finalize it when the University notifies them that the tuition is paid. For information about the fees please see the tuition fee page. Invoices are sent out late April/early May for autumn semesters and late November/early December for spring semesters and are due within 30 days. Scholars will have their invoice deduced with the scholarship amount.
Scholarships
Please see the Tuition fee information page.
Acceptance
As soon as you have your Notification of Selection Results (Admission Letter) from Your Pages at studera.nu, read the information carefully. Please note that you must accept your admission at Your Pages at studera.nu, otherwise it will be deleted in the 2nd selection. If you for some reason do not plan to come, you do not have to do anything.
Visa – Residence permit
If you are not a citizen of the European Union you must get your student visa before arriving to Sweden. Please contact the Swedish Embassy in your home country. You cannot get your visa after your arrival to Sweden. Apply for your visa immediately as it can take 8-12 weeks. In order to obtain a student visa you need a health insurance and funding (see: www.studyinsweden.se/english
). Students who pay tuition fees are covered by the University's insurance FAS.
If you are a citizen of the European Union you will apply for your residence permit once you arrive in Skövde. We will go through the residence permit application during the Introduction Programme. In order to apply for the residence permit the following documents are required:
- a copy of your Letter of Acceptance,
- a copy of your health insurance card or form (E128 or E111)
- a copy of your valid passport or national identity card
- a financial statement or a proof that you can financially support yourself during your studies in Sweden.
(Nordic citizens do not require a visa or residence permit.)
Registration
Registration is done in two steps.
1. Register your arrival at Masters and International admission and present your original academic Transcripts and Certificate(s)/Diploma(s). The Masters and International admissions is found in the E-building, second floor.
2. (for Programme students) Participate in the registration meeting with the programme coordinator/director. Information will come from the director when and where. At this meeting the selection of courses in the programme will be done.
2. (for course students) Participate in the first class and have your registration form signed by the teacher, which you then hand in to the Admissions office. You can find your schedule via the Find a course or programme search engine.
Registration is open only ONE week and students arriving after that date will not be registered. If you for some reason could not make it to the registration meeting you must in advance communicate this with the programme coordinator to get his/hers acceptance.
Computer access and e-mail
After registration you can visit IT-Service Helpdesk to get your local computer access and university e-mail.
Accommodation
The university does not own housing facilities itself but provides help in finding accommodations for international students. For more information see the Accommodation Service page.
Insurance
Sweden has reciprocal agreements concerning health care with a range of countries (most EU/EEA countries). Those of you coming from a country within the EU/EEA need to bring along your EU health insurance (E128 and/or E111). The EU health insurance (E128/E111) guarantees that you receive the same medical care as Swedes at the same cost and is also needed in order to get your residence permit once you arrive in Sweden. Students from an EU/EEA country should contact the appropriate authority in the home country (usually the Social Insurance Office) in order to obtain the form or card E128/E111.
Students from countries which do not have such agreements with Sweden are required to pay their medical fees in full so it is absolutely vital that you have a private international insurance that covers for example accidents and sicknesses, medical care, hospital treatment, theft etc. Tuition paying students are covered by a health insurance through the University of Skövde. The insurance covers emergency medical and dental care. It does not cover students' property.
If you are not included in one of the groups above, make sure that you have a private insurance. Usually, you need to underwrite it before you arrive to Sweden. A health insurance is necessary for visa.
Pick-up service
A pick up service will be arranged during the recommended “Arrival Days” which are January 9-10 2012. The pick-up service will be offered on these specific days and we would like you to try to arrive on office hours: 08.00-17.00. The pick-up service will welcome you at the train station in Skövde and show you to your accommodation, providing that you have informed us about your arrival dates and times in advance. Introduction Programme
As a new student at the University of Skövde you are welcome to take part in the introduction programme. The introduction programme will introduce you to the university, its facilities and services and inform you about courses, exams and academic procedures. Some of the lectures in this programme are compulsory and others are not, but we strongly advice all international students to take part as much as possible. There will also be additional social activities arranged by the Student Union and the International Committee. The introduction programme for spring semester 2012 will start on the 11th of January. You find the introduction programme in the green box, Documents.

International Events
During the spring semester we will arrange different kinds of international events, fairs, international dinners, information meetings, etc. We hope you will participate in these events and advertise why Swedish students should go to your University. If you have any special brochures, student guides, or course catalogues from your University or others things typical for your country or region, we would appreciate if you could bring them along.
