The Swedish parliament has decided that tuition fees are to be introduced for students coming from outside the EU or EEA. The fees are introduced from the autumn term 2011. It's up to each university to set a price for the education they offer.
The University of Skövde has now decided what education at the university should cost. A programme student studying life science, technology, medicine, nursing or design are to pay 120 000 SEK per 60 credits. The corresponding cost for those who study humanities, law, social sciences and education will be 85 000. 60 credits represent one academic year at normal study pace.
Students from outside the EU or EEA may also come to the University of Skövde to take separate courses. In this case they pay 2 500 SEK per credit if they study in the fields of life science, technology, medicine, nursing or design. A separate course in the fields of humanities, law, social sciences and education will cost 2 000 SEK per credit.
International students already studying at University of Skövde are not covered by the new rules. These students are able to complete their current programmes and courses without paying tuition.
Universities in Sweden are setting their fees in relation to the compensation the Swedish state gives the universities when they admit students from the EU och EEA. A university is also allowed to compensate for the additional costs that the administration of international students entails.
