Ukraine visit provides teacher development

For two weeks, three teachers from University of Skövde along with three students will visit Ukraine and the city Zaporizhzhia. The aim is to build on the cooperation that exists between the University in Sweden and Zaporizhzhia'sTeachers Training College

- The students will be out and participating in the work on a number of schools and be involved in teaching at the university, says Eva Dahlgren, Lecturer at the University of Skövde.

Participate in teaching

The delegation from University of Skövde will visit Zaporizhzhia's Teachers Training College, which is one of the most prestigious in the country.
- It is the third year we work with them. We've been there twice and they have been here in Skövde to times. But it is the first time we have students with us and participate in the teaching itself, says Eva Dahlgren.

Research

The three students will use the time to do research for their theses.
- All interested students have had the chance to apply and then these three were selected. This trip gives them a huge opportunity to experience something extraordinary and collect valuable experiences, says Eva Dahlgren.
Together with Eva, Marianne Lord and Camilla Wallin from the University also follows on the trip.

Enormous progress

Education has made tremendous strides in a short time in the Ukraine, but there is still progress to reach.
- They have the latest technology to work with but because it is not so common with computers in the home environment you have to start on a completely different basic level than here in Sweden, says Eva.

She concludes:

- But there is an enormous commitment from the teachers and they want to make a change. It was also great to show off the Swedish model when they were visiting us. The comment we got was that the children were laughing so much here here.
