Description

Read, critically review, and discuss scientific papers. All groups is expected to attend all seminars and actively participate in the discussions. At the seminar, you shall: 

  • WRITE: To be prepared for the seminars, you are asked to hand in prior to (or at) the seminar, short summaries of the articles to be presented. These summaries should include the essence of the paper as well as any comment, reflections or question that you can raise during the discussions (one forth to half a page/article). At least one interesting issue, comment, reflection or question should be included. 
  • PRESENT: Verbally present the paper(s) allocated to your group. The presentation should take about 30 min and have a formal form, i.e., it should be well prepared with Power Point slides. Conclude your presentation with discussion points and/or questions that can be the starting point for the discussion. After the presentation, there will be about 10 min for discussion. 

Send your slides to the lecturer that coordinates the seminar one day ahead (joeri.van.laere@his.se ). The lecturer will bring a laptop, your file, and a projector.

Assessment criteria

The grading scale of seminar assignments is Pass (G) or Fail (U). The seminar assignments must be graded Pass in order for you to be graded pass on the course.

In order to be graded Pass, you should have

  • For each seminar, handed in short, written, summaries of the presented articles which identify the essence of each paper including one issue which you would like to highlight  (maximum half page for each article)
  • Verbally presented all the papers that you have been allotted in a formal reporting manner, i.e., the verbal report is well prepared and that visual aid (e.g., PowerPoint) is used. Identified the essence of the paper, i.e., the core message as well as prepared and presented some relevant comments, reflections or questions.
  • Actively particpated in the discussions during the seminars
