A warm welcome in a cold Skövde

The international students have now arrived at the University of Skövde. A total of 80 international students are spending the spring in Skövde, and for most of them it is the first time in Sweden. There is a lot of diversity among the students; 25 countries are represented among the students.

– We are glad to say that the amount of international students is continuing to rise in comparison to spring 2014. The numbers of incoming students are the same, but there is an increase with 30 % of paying students this year, in comparison with spring 2014. Among our paying students there are students from the Middle East, Syria for example. We also happily announce that for the first time we welcome a student from Yeungnam University in South Korea, which is our new partner, says Elizabeth Persson, Deputy Director of Academic Affairs and Student Support.

During the first weeks the international students have the chance to get to know the University of Skövde, the city and also the Swedish culture. The introduction also offers social activities where the students have the chance to get to know each other and other student at the University of Skövde. For example they arrange a barbeque on mount Billingen, a movie night and a trip to Swedish Lapland.

Vinnit George, Atbiramol Sasi and Meenu Sankar are three international students from India that are going to do their master of science at University of Skövde. The winter cold in Sweden is a big adjustment in comparison to their home in South India with temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius.

– It is very cold, but the people are very warm and friendly. We chose Skövde for the studies, but we also want to travel and have a look around. I hope that I get the chance to see the Northern lights, says Meenu Sankar.
