Biomedicine – Master’s Programme, 60 ECTS

A Bachelor degree of at least 180 higher education credits (equivalent to 180 ECTS) within the fields of biomedicine, biology, pharmacy, medicine, odontology or veterinary medicine. A further requirement is proof of skills in English equivalent of studies at upper secondary level in Sweden, known as English course 6 / English course B. This is normally demonstrated by means of an internationally recognized test, e g IELTS or TOEFL or the equivalent.

Biomedicine is an emerging field of science that applies the principles of natural sciences, especially biology, to investigate problems in clinical medicine.

In the University of Skövde, we offer a one-year Master's programme in Biomedicine that includes several advanced courses designed to afford you with hands-on-practice in this subject. The modules within this program will give you an in depth theoretical knowledge as well as advanced laboratory and methodological skills to prepare you for a professional career within the field of biomedicine in academic research or in the pharmaceutical industry.

The focus of your studies

The study year will provide you with a good understanding of the molecular and cellular processes involved in normal and disease conditions in the human body, with a special emphasis on tumor biology.The compulsory courses include lectures, laboratory works and seminars.

Upon completion of your studies

The term biomedical career encompasses a broad spectra of professions that are generally related to medicine and health care. They include science and health professions such as academic researcher, research engineer, analyst, laboratory supervisor and other leading positions in clinical/medical research and development. Many people who have taken their degrees in biomedicine are employed at universities, research institutes, pharmaceutical industries, biotech companies, laboratories at county councils and public authorities, or pursue their education towards a PhD degree. The training will also equip you with a good foundation for pursuing other types of science-related careers such as medical writer, journalist, patent-engineer, patent-lawyer, or for taking up a position at one of the control and inspection authority posts.
