Industrial Systems Engineering - Master’s Programme, 60 ECTS

To be eligible for the course is required a Bachelor's Degree (equivalent to a Swedish Bachelor’s Degree) with a major in the automation engineering, production engineering, mechanical engineering or information technology and at least 5 credits in programming as well as at least 5 credits in statistics. A further requirement is proof of skills in English equivalent of studies at upper secondary level in Sweden, known as English course 6 / English course B. This is normally demonstrated by means of an internationally recognized test, e g IELTS or TOEFL or the equivalent.

Degree of Master

Industrial manufacturing has become increasingly technology-intensive and automated. The modern manufacturing systems are also becoming more complex to meet the demands of multi-functionality, exibility and responsiveness. To handle this situation engineers need not only to be able to understand and analyze a system’s individual building blocks, but also the system as a whole. Here, the utilization of advanced IT tools is a central aspect as they provide the opportunity to plan, implement, manage and monitor even complex production facilities. Advanced data acquisition and data processing also provide the opportunity to take the engineer’s decision-making to a whole new level.

The focus of your studies

The Industrial Systems Engineering Master’s Programme focuses on providing students with the skills required for tomorrow’s engineers, so that they will be able to address challenges and take advantage of new technological solutions. Through the Master’s Programme, students are expected to acquire a holistic view of the link between production technology, industrial automation and information technology. Industrial Systems Engineering is an interdisciplinary field of engineering that focuses on how complex engineering problems and systems should be designed and managed from a lifecycle perspective. The Industrial Systems Engineering Master ́s Programme includes various techniques and tools, such as model- ling, simulation, optimization, system dynamics, system and decision support in order to meet requirements of the future. A particular focus of the programme is how different IT systems can be developed and used to support activities specially in the manufacturing industry.

Research Opportunities
After graduation there are good opportunities to continue with PhD studies within the Virtual Systems Research Centre at the University of Skövde. Most of the teachers in the Industrial Systems Engineering Master ́s Programme conduct research in various research topics related to Systems Engineering, and thus the Master ́s Programme provides you with good opportunities in various ways to connect with current research in the area.

Jobs after graduation

The job market for engineers is considerable and growing. With new technology, new methods, and new IT support, companies can further streamline its production and make it more reliable, durable, and adaptable to changes in the product and production volume. However, it is not just in the automation industry but also in other sectors, such as the welfare sector, where new technological solutions could be very useful. Hence, this places high demands on tomorrow’s engineers as well as those who already are working in the field.
