Panel discussion how AI affected research landscape

      Date 3 November
      Time 17:00 - 19:00
      Location Zoom

How AI has changed the research landscape in the last few decades? Where is the current trend leading to? What it takes a graduate student to contribute to the field?

Experienced researchers from diverse fields gather around to talk about these questions. The main objectives of the discussion are:

      • Get a brief historical perspective of the research landscape (in connection to AI) in different fields.
      • The scenario of the current research landscape, in view of funding, collaborations, and publications.
        Current trend's pros-cons.
      • For PhDs and young researchers, how to benefit, and what to be wary of?
      • This event will be held in a panel discussion format. It is intended to be less of a presentation or interview and more of a discourse between the panelists. And lastly, there will discourse on the questions posed by the audience.

The panel consists of five researchers from the University of Skövde.

      • Peter Anderberg who is a professor in Health Sciences and leads several research projects with focus on development of technology and services for older people.
      • Amos H.C. Ng, a professor in Production and Automation Engineering. His current research interest lies in combining multi-disciplinary simulations and AI-based prescriptive analytics for supporting decision-making in manufacturing/service/health-care domains.
      • Jörgen Hansson, professor in informatics, who´s research areas include safety-critical systems, software architecture, and dependability aspects.
      • Nikolaos Kourentzes, professor in predictive analytics, researching various areas of time series modeling and business forecasting, using Artificial Intelligence, Econometrics, and Statistics.
      • Jane Synnergren, associate professor in bioinformatics. Jane´s research is focused on analysis methods for the identification of biomarkers and the integration of multiple types of omics data.

The evening will be moderated by Sara Y. Mahmoud, a Ph.D. student in Informatics at the University of Skövde. Sara works in artificial cognitive systems and intelligent vehicles and specializes in Deep Learning and Reinforcement Learning.

Host: Ph.D. student council, Högskolan i Skövde

      Sponsor: IPSI school of research
