This course provides fundamental and contemporary knowledge about evolution. You will learn about evolutionary mechanisms, genetic prerequisites, and the construction of evolutionary trees. Knowledge of evolution and its mechanisms is applied across various fields of life sciences, such as genetics, biochemistry, physiology, behavioural science, and ecology. Evolutionary mechanisms also serve as inspiration and methods in programming, for example, in artificial intelligence or optimisation to find the cheapest or best solution to a problem. You will also gain insights into the historical development of evolutionary theory and human evolution. Additionally, you will practise reading scientific texts in the field, discussing scientific research, and examining the scientific support for evolutionary theory.
