The Master's Programme in Serious Games is designed for those who want to create games with purposes beyond pure entertainment. Here, you will learn to design games that educate, develop, and bring about change. You will follow the process from idea to launch.

      About the programme

Serious Games is one of two closely connected master's programmes focused on game development. These programmes provide you with a deep and broad understanding of how game experiences are shaped and improved, and how technical and artistic perspectives are combined.

      What are Serious Games?

Serious Games involve using the form and mechanics of games to promote, for example, learning and behavioural change. In the programme, you will learn how games can be used as powerful tools beyond entertainment – in areas such as education, training, health, and societal development.

Serious Games combine technical, pedagogical, and artistic perspectives. You will learn the entire development process for this type of game – from needs analysis and project management to launch and dissemination.

      Career opportunities

The programme opens doors to jobs within game development, as well as in industries that invest in game-based solutions for learning, training, and change. You can work with everything from simulations to behavioural design in the private sector, public sector, or at a game studio.

      High degree of flexibility

The third semester offers great flexibility to deepen or broaden your profile. You can choose to go on exchange to one of our partner universities around the world, take courses from the Player Experience specialisation, or participate in a game project focusing on entrepreneurship in game development.
