On May 29th, the Swedish Government announced that higher education institutions can return to more regular activities during the summer and autumn. The University of Skövde will, this autumn, mainly conduct campus education; however, some part of the courses may be conducted online.
Once you have registered as a student, you will see on your schedule which parts of your course will be given on campus, or if so applies online. If you are admitted to a distance programme, these programmes are not affected by the decision to return to campus and will be offered distance learning as planned.
See you at the University
The Introduction Programme for all our international students starts on Monday, August 24th. If you are admitted to a campus programme you need to be present in Skövde by this date. Some of you will register for your programme during the introduction week, some of you register through the Student Portal. Please read the Registration information carefully. It is important that you apply for residence permit and search for accommodation as soon as possible. The official autumn semester 2020 starts on August 31st.
If you cannot get your residence permit in time, we can delay the start of your studies until September 14th. If you still have not received a residence permit in time or are rejected you can apply for a tuition fee refund.
If you are admitted to a distance programme, you will find information about online registration at www.his.se/en/education/newly-admitted/registration/
What if I cannot come?
If you are a tuition-fee paying student and cannot start your studies as planned due to Covid-19, you have to inform the University before the semester begins on August 31st. You will then receive a full refund on your tuition fee. If you inform the University from August 31st or later, there will be an administrative fee of SEK 8000.
Applications for deferment are assessed individually and are always based on if there are special circumstances that are out of your control that hinder you from beginning your studies. A deferral due to the Covid-19 pandemic is not automatically valid. Special circumstances related to Covid-19 are for example closed borders or travel restrictions. Deferments that are granted will be for the next time the programme starts, which is autumn 2021.
The University’s preventive work
The University follows the general advice and recommendations from the Swedish Government and the Public Health Agency to minimise the spread of the novel corona virus on campus. The University’s management monitors the Covid-19 situation and inform students and staff on an ongoing basis. When returning to campus based education the University will continue taking all precautions to make the campus safe for both students and staff.
When teaching large groups of students, lectures can be held with digital support to reduce the risk of spread of infection. The number of students in the classroom will be limited to allow for social distancing.
