The course gives a brief introduction to Swedish culture and Swedish society, focusing on four parts (geography, culture, society and history) and consists of lectures given during the first half of the autumn/spring term. Besides learning about Sweden, the students are encouraged to look into and compare Swedish values and traditions to those of the student´s own cultural background. There will be lectures including discussions and reflections, as well as voluntary assignments, in which further understanding is encouraged. The course will also prepare you for the exam form “home based exam” commonly found in courses taught at Swedish universities. The course ends with an exam in the middle of the autumn/spring term. You are most welcome to listen, talk, learn, reflect, discuss, disagree, develop and dwell on the cultural aspects of the country in which you will spend the next few months/years of your life.
