Easter in Sweden isn’t just about colourful feathers, sweets and a few days off. It’s also a time that sparks curiosity about traditions, language and culture.
At the University of Skövde, our experts explore Easter from several perspectives. From why Swedes go all in on eggs during this season to how hidden “Easter eggs” appear in films and games and why we tend to play with language in especially "egg-citing" ways at this time of year.
In Sweden, Easter decorations often include "påskris", twigs adorned with colourful feathers and instead of the typical chocolate eggs, we fill large cardboard eggs with assorted sweets.
These quirky traditions might raise eyebrows abroad but are a beloved part of the Swedish Easter vibe.
Here, we’ve gathered our Easter-related features, both light-hearted and insightful.
Happy reading – and Glad Påsk (Happy Easter)!
