Information Visualization for Learning and Communication

In today's society, information visualisation is used across various fields to simplify the understanding of large and complex data sets. By making data more accessible, information visualisation supports better comprehension and informed decision-making. Transforming data into effective visual representations involves different visualisation techniques, and selecting the right one requires an understanding of how humans perceive and process information.

This course provides an introduction to the most common visualisation techniques and how knowledge of human perception and cognition can be applied when designing visualisations. You will also learn how to evaluate the effectiveness of specific visualisations.

      Who is the course for?

You are likely working as a designer, product/service developer, or data scientist, focusing on digital services and products.

Contact wiser@his.se if you are interested in taking this course.

After completing the course, you will be able to:

Even as an experienced designer, you will learn how to best visualise data for specific analytical or presentation challenges. You will gain an understanding of how to apply knowledge of human perception and cognition to these challenges. Additionally, you will be introduced to the most commonly used techniques today and learn how to assess the expressiveness and efficiency of your visualisations.

The course covers both the latest research and practical applications.

      Course format

The course is delivered flexibly online, allowing you to complete most of the coursework at your own pace and when it best suits you.
