Companies consider processes to be the key to success. There is currently increased focus on automation, optimisation and simulation in order to improve current processes. Companies can use process mining to gather information from automation initiatives, for example, and visualise the events in order to see the design of the processes.
Why visualise event logs?
Visualising event logs, i.e. what is happening in a process, allows companies to analyse the flow and gain an understanding of what is actually happening. Is there potential for improvement, for example, and if so, where can it be made, are there any compliance events, and so on. Process mining makes it possible for organisations to gain control over their processes, thereby streamlining workflows and increasing their competitiveness.
Reflect on usability in your organisation
This course consists of a theoretical element and a practical element. During the practical element, you will devise examples of process mining by looking at event log files from different industries. You will also reflect on the usefulness of process mining in your organisation and develop a plan for its introduction. The theoretical element covers the definition of processes, process models (in particular Business Process Model and Notation, BPMN), the concept and capacity for process mining, automated process detection, variant detection and performance analysis.
After completing the course, you will be able to:
- describe the process mining functions in an organisation
- identify bottlenecks in processes at an organisation
- describe the variants of the processes that exist in an organisation, and
- create process models and their variants from event log files.
Who is the course for?
This course is aimed at professionals who want to learn more about process mining and how it can be introduced in an organisation.

Course format
The courses in their educational form and scope are intended to be combined with work. This means that all courses are:
- Online
- Short courses (3 ECTS)
- Has a study rate of 20% (equivalent to approximately 8 hours a week for 10 weeks)
- Conducted through self-study as well as occasional scheduled occasions where you get the opportunity to meet other course participants and the course's teachers (these meetings are conducted remotely via Zoom).
