Simulation is used to test and evaluate production and logistics changes in a virtual environment. Technology will allow us to understand the positive and negative consequences of changes before implementing them in a real environment. The Streamlining production with simulation course will focus on how simulation can support the design and streamlining of production and logistic flows by using discrete event-driven simulation (one of three branches in the world of simulation).
Practical sessions and lab tests
The course is based on both theoretical and practical elements to provide you with as broad an understanding as possible. This will include interviews with guest speakers from industry. The course lectures will include both current research in the field and practical examples. Furthermore, laboratory sessions will show you how simulation and optimisation can provide support when analysing complex systems, and discussion forums will give you time to exchange experiences with other course participants.
After completing the course, you will be able to:
- explain and discuss the opportunities and pitfalls of using simulation to support decisions when designing systems and selecting improvements,
- analyse and evaluate simulation results to use them as fact-based decision support, and explain and discuss the various steps needed in a simulation study,
- identify and critically discuss how simulation can be introduced and used as a tool in your own activities on the basis of current standards.
Who is the course for?
The course is aimed at managers, business developers and professionals at SMEs, as well as in larger organisations. Individuals who want to understand the opportunities offered by simulation in designing production systems, evaluating buffer levels and/or batch sizes and improving the efficiency of other production and logistics areas, for example.

Course format
The courses in their educational form and scope are intended to be combined with work. This means that all courses are:
- Online
- Short courses (3 ECTS)
- Has a study rate of 20% (equivalent to approximately 8 hours a week for 10 weeks)
- Conducted through self-study as well as occasional scheduled occasions where you get the opportunity to meet other course participants and the course's teachers (these meetings are conducted remotely via Zoom).
The KK Foundation
The course is developed within the WISER project. We offer tailor-made courses for digital transformation and are aimed at professionals. The project is co-financed by the KK foundation within the framework of Expert competence. For more information visit: his.se/wiser
