      Requesting articles and books

If you are looking for a book that is not held by the University Library, we may choose to buy it or borrow it from another library. Articles published in journals that the University Library does not have access to can also normally be requested from other libraries.

      Before making a request

Try to find the material in LibSearch (external link), it may already be available. You can search for both articles and books in LibSearch. You can also try to search for it in Google Scholar (external link).

      Requests

University students (regardless of their educational institution) and University of Skövde employees can request articles and books from other libraries. You need to have a library account.

Members of the public who wish to request interlibrary loans are referred to their nearest public library.

Copies of articles published in journals that are not available at the University Library can often be requested from other libraries. However, entire issues of journals cannot be requested.

Purchases of books will be made within fields in which the University is active, that are relevant to studies or research, and where such purchases can be justified financially. Books that cannot be purchased can often be borrowed as interlibrary loans from other libraries.

The library will not purchase books or borrow books on interlibrary loan that the library already holds copies of, but that are currently on loan or cannot be lent out.

You can request books via the purchase and interlibrary loan form. Depending on the circumstances, we then choose whether it is best to buy the book or make an interlibrary loan.

The library is grateful for acquisition suggestions from students and employees at the University of Skövde. If it is a suggestion and you do not want to make a reservation, please tick No at 'Do you want to reserve the book in your name?'

To make a request for an article, use the article request form. Please provide as much information as possible about the article you are looking for.

Students and employees at the University of Skövde who hold a library card can request articles and books directly via LIBRIS (external link). First, you need to create a borrower account in LIBRIS in order to make requests. Please note that this service is only available to University of Skövde students and employees.

Distance students at the University of Skövde can order books and articles, with the exception of course literature and reference books, and have them delivered at home.

More information: The library for distance students

For students, the cost is SEK 40 per requested article. Outside the Nordic region and Germany, the price is SEK 100 per requested article.

Borrowing books from libraries in the Nordic region is free. Borrowing books from libraries outside the Nordic region costs SEK 200 per book.

The library will not place requests for materials outside the Nordic region without first contacting the person making the request.

The University’s employees can request articles and books free of charge.

It is not possible to say exactly when materials will be delivered to us. On average, it tends to take one to two weeks. For example, books may already be on loan to another library. In such cases, we are then added to a queue where possible.

When the article or book is available for collection, we will e-mail you or write to you if we do not have your e-mail address. Students can collect articles and books from the library’s information desk. Articles requested by employees will be sent via internal post, and requested books can be collected from the library.

A few books cannot be lent out and must be read in the library.

For copyright reasons, the library cannot e-mail items.

The lending period for interlibrary loan is determined by the library lending the book. If you need to extend an interlibrary loan borrowed via Skövde University Library, please contact us. If the loan can be extended, you will find the new return date in your library account. If you do not return an interlibrary loan on time, you will be sent a demand.

If you do not return the book, you will have to pay a charge. This charge will be determined by the library responsible for the interlibrary loan. An administrative charge will also be applied.
