      BIP: Sustainability Reporting for Sustainable Development

      Join an international learning experience at the University of Skövde, where sustainable development is approached through sustainability reporting and decision-making as a driver of organizational responsibility in real-world contexts. You will be part of a diverse international group, bringing together students from various countries, universities, and academic backgrounds, to exchange perspectives during an on-campus week in Skövde, followed by online collaboration.       The University of Skövde coordinates this course, drawing on ongoing research, and teaching expertise from the School of Business and its international partners. As a student, you will gain valuable insights into sustainable development, organizational responsibility, and sustainability reporting, and how these shape real-world decision-making.

      Quick facts

      Study period: 13 April – 8 May 2026

      • The onsite component: University of Skövde from 20–24 April 2026, including lectures and group work.
      • The online component will run one week before and two weeks after the onsite period (13 April – 8 May 2026), involving teamwork and a final online seminar.

      Language and credits: The course is taught in English and awards 3 ECTS credits.

      Level of Study: bachelor's (first cycle) and master's (second cycle).

      Each partner university is expected to nominate five students. Up to ten students per partner may be accepted, subject to overall capacity.

      Course aim, short description and learning outcome

      The course aims to enhance students’ understanding of sustainability reporting as a practical tool for linking organizational responsibility with sustainable development. It provides an overview of key frameworks for communicating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance and their connection to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

      Through applied and collaborative learning, students explore how sustainability reporting supports transparency, responsible management, and sustainable value creation in real organizational contexts.

      Upon completion, students will be able to analyze sustainability challenges from multiple perspectives and demonstrate enhanced abilities in critical inquiry, communication, and intercultural collaboration.

      Methods and assessment

      Teaching is based on short lectures and interactive sessions, combined with teamwork on applied sustainability challenges. Collaborative work is supported by individual reflection, which encourages both analytical depth and personal growth.

      Assessment consists of a group assignment and an oral examination.

      Prerequisites and course syllabus

      The course is open to both Bachelor’s and Master’s students.

      Bachelor’s level (first cycle):

      Master’s level (second cycle)

      • Students are expected to have completed at least 120 ECTS credits in an undergraduate programme in a field such as business administration, economics, or other areas relevant to sustainable development, and to have prior exposure to business administration (e.g. through courses or equivalent knowledge).

      Application

      You apply for this BIP through your home institution. Each institution sends a list of nominated students to adina.popa@his.se, including the students' names and email addresses.

      Thereafter, the University of Skövde will provide all nominated students with information on how and when to apply via universityadmissions.se. You will receive your admission letter within 2-3 weeks after the application deadline.

      Cost

      The course is offered at no cost, though fee-paying students may have different conditions. For more details, you should consult your home institution. You are responsible for your own travel, accommodation and any meals not included in the programme.

      Funding for students

      If you are selected for the programme, you are eligible to apply for the ERASMUS+ short-term mobility grant offered by your home university. This does not apply to students at the University of Skövde.

      Travel and accommodation information

      The best way to get to Skövde is to fly to Stockholm or Gothenburg and take the train from there to Skövde.
