Constituent courses in the study programme
During the first year of the programme, you will learn the basics of laboratory work, cell biology, evolution, genetics, chemistry, microbiology and bioinformatics. You will acquire broad knowledge of bioscience, and the second year will include advanced studies within molecular biology with a focus on molecular biodesign, biomarkers and laboratory work. You will also learn how to use various types of software to support biomolecular design. During the third year, you will study project management and entrepreneurship, and will apply your knowledge in a practical molecular biodesign project. The whole of the final semester involves working on an experimental bioscience degree project. Teaching takes place in English.
Career opportunities
After graduating, you can work in laboratory analyses, product development or applied research within medical biotechnology, industrial biotechnology, food biotechnology or environmental biotechnology.
Opportunities for further study
After completing your studies, you can continue studying at second-cycle level on one of our master’s programmes in Infection Biology, Molecular Biotechnology or Biomarkers. You will also be eligible for advanced-level studies at other universities, both in Sweden and internationally. The combination of basic and advanced qualifications provides an excellent basis for research-preparatory studies and research, or for product development in both academia and industry.
