The course introduces the concepts of health promotion and public health. It deals with the advantages of eating a healthy diet and of being physically active in terms of chronic disease prevention, longevity, and general wellness. An essential aspect of this course is the comparison of national dietary guidelines from different countries. The course also includes a critical evaluation of popular diets and discussions about the potential advantages and disadvantages connected with each of them. Finally, the course addresses how human diets can influence greenhouse gas emissions, water, and land use and how this impact can be reduced.
