Taylor's thoughts about Skövde
Where do you come from originally?
– The United States, I grew up in Dayton Ohio.
How is it to study in Skövde?
– Really fun! My classes are interesting and then there is also a wonderful international and local community to get to know when I’m not studying. Additionally, the University has a lot of unique resources like ASSAR that offer cool practical opportunities to apply what I’ve been learning in class.
Why did you choose to study this programme?
– The program fit my academic and professional interests well as I want to work in Manufacturing automation.
What do you want to do for work in five years?
– I would like to be an engineer working in manufacturing automation. Additionally, I hope my work will involve international travel of some kind.
What tips would you offer a new student?
– Get involved with a student organization and go to events hosted at the University and in the city.
What is the biggest advantage of studying at a small school like the University of Skövde?
– You get to know your classmates and professors really well.
What did you know about Sweden before you moved here?
– I had actually already been to Skövde once before in the Summer of 2021. I have several Swedish friends who attended the University of Skövde, and I came to Sweden to attend my friend’s wedding.
What was the biggest surprise to you about being a student here?
– The way Swedish Universities break up the academic semester. In the United States I was used to having four or five courses that you take for the entire semester, but here I usually take two classes for half the semester and then start two new classes during the second half of the semester, and then have one course that runs for the entire semester.
How do you like the student accommodations?
– My apartment is one of my favorite parts about Skövde. It was remodeled right before I moved in, so everything was newly updated and from my front door to basically any building on campus is only ten minutes walking time.
What is your favorite thing about Skövde?
– How walkable the city is, from my apartment it doesn’t take me more than twenty or thirty minutes to walk anywhere I want to go!
What do you do in your free time?
– I volunteer for ESN, the student organization I’m apart of, cuddle with my two cats, have game nights with my friends, and go to concerts.
What is the best thing about the University of Skövde?
– All the opportunities to get real world experience and the University’s close collaboration with local industry.
What is your favorite course you have taken at the University of Skövde?
– Computational Intelligence.
