      Admission Requirements

      Entry requirements higher education not set. To attend this course, a Bachelor’s degree (or other equivalent to a Swedish kandidatexamen) within the field of informatics, or media, aesthetics, and narration (or equivalent). A further requirement is proof of skills in English, equivalent of studies at upper secondary level in Sweden, known as English 6 or English level 2. This is normally demonstrated by means of an internationally recognized test, e.g., IELTS, TOEFL, or an equivalent.

      Player Experience (PX), sometimes also known as Player Research, is a rapidly growing field of expertise both in game studies and in the games industry. It is also a strongly interdisciplinary field of expertise, and player experience spans game development, interaction design, human-computer interaction, and research methodology; all of which are important to understand the various types of experiences people have while playing games. This course gives the student knowledge of how different PX methods can be applied in game development in order to better understand and develop game experiences. Since game experiences are shaped by a complex combination of game design, technical interfaces, and the players’ different preferences, capabilities, literacies, and intentions they need to be studied using multi-faceted approaches. Therefore, PX requires the combined knowledge of scientific methods, information technology, game design and analysis tools. PX especially aims to support game developers as well as players game play experience through the conscious use of game mechanics and interfaces.
