      The context of the 4D Ergonomics project (VINNOVA/MERA, Dnr 2005-01998) is the simulation of humans in manual assembly tasks. The project builds on the previous ViPP project.

      The overall objective of 4D Ergonomics is to address issues of time dependent aspects of physical ergonomics (hence the "fourth dimension" in the project title). The project commenced 2006 and address issues such as:

      • The development of ergonomics evaluation methods to analyse full work sequences, where the accumulated ergonomic load is computed and assessed for its criticality. This is eventually to be implemented in human simulation software so that ergonomics analysis can be performed of simulated work sequences (animations).
      • Enhanced understanding of the correlation between ergonomics, quality and economics, and the development of calculation methods for linking improved ergonomics to reduced costs and gained quality.
      • How modern motion capture systems can support the human simulation process by making simulations more realistic/valid, and faster to perform.
