This course equips the student with a vocabulary and methodology that makes it possible to work with Games User Experience in an effective - but also critical, reflective, and forward-thinking - way.
Games User Experience (GUX) work is a concept that is rapidly gaining attention both within academia and the games industry. In this course, we will focus on making in-depth critical assessments of various evaluation methods and tools that are often used in GUX-related work. These evaluation methods often have their roots in academic research methods. This means that there is a plethora of research literature that discusses methods, tools, epistemological perspectives, and ethical considerations that are important to grasp when constructing new forms of GUX evaluation processes. Understanding the history of research methods and epistemology is a fundament to understanding how to work with GUX in a way that is not only effective in providing useful results, but also how to ensure that games and game interfaces are inclusive and promote sustainable growth of the games industry.
