      Societal Collapse: Is It Inevitable?

      Date 10 April
      Time 16:15 - 17:15
      Location D105, Högskolevägen 2
Extra information Open Lecture by Danilo Brozović

What causes societies to collapse – and can AI save us? You are welcome to an eye-opening lecture examining humanity’s role in our history and future. What sacrifices are we willing to make to save our planet? Is societal collapse inevitable, or can we turn the tide in time?

We stand at a pivotal moment in history. Forests are burning, rising sea levels, and extreme weather is becoming the norm. At the same time, the world is shaken by depleting resources, power struggles among superpowers, and an AI revolution that both fascinates and frightens.

For millennia, great civilisations have risen and fallen – are we on the same path, or can we break the cycle before it is too late?

      An uncomfortable yet vital conclusion

Danilo Brozović, Senior Lecturer in Business Administration at the University of Skövde, has analysed hundreds of studies on societal collapse and reached an uncomfortable yet vital conclusion: without radical change, we risk the same fate.

His research was recently highlighted by The Guardian in the article ‘We need dramatic social and technological changes’: Is societal collapse inevitable? Shortly afterwards, he was invited to Harvard to share his findings. Now, you have the chance to attend the same lecture at the University of Skövde.

The lecture is titled Societal Collapse: Is It Inevitable? and will be held in English.

To avoid societal collapse, a swift and profound transformation of political guidelines, institutional structures, and strategies for securing food supply and ecosystem protection is required. Much progress is being made, but is it happening fast enough? That is the core question in Danilo Brozović’s presentation.

      What You Will Gain:

In this thought-provoking lecture, Danilo Brozović explores:

      • What factors drive societies toward collapse?
      • Is today’s complex, global system unsustainable?
      • Can AI be a solution, or is it part of the problem?
      • Is there a way forward, and what is needed to prevent disaster?

Through historical examples, research findings, and insights from some of the world’s leading thinkers on sustainability and societal development, we gain a deeper understanding of the challenges we face – and the choices we must make.

What sacrifices are we willing to make? Is collapse inevitable, or can we change course in time?
