This study within the Ingenium University Alliance investigates the relationships between loneliness, internet use, and well-being among students and staff at academic institutions.
Good mental health is described as a fundamental prerequisite for individuals to reach their full potential and for societal development (Socialstyrelsen & Folkhälsomyndigheten, 2023). To create detailed knowledge and understand the relationships between loneliness, internet use, and well-being from both a national and international perspective, our plan is to collect data from various countries within the Ingenium University Alliance.
Focus on loneliness in relation to internet use and well-being
This study will focus on loneliness in relation to internet use and well-being among advanced-level students (master's), doctoral students, and staff at the participating universities within Ingenium.
Purpose
The overall purpose of this project is to explore and compare students' and staff's experiences of loneliness, internet use, and well-being at universities.
Sub-purposes:
- Explore how loneliness is experienced in relation to internet use and the sense of well-being among staff at university institutions.
- Explore how loneliness is experienced in relation to internet use and the sense of well-being among advanced-level (master's) and doctoral students at university institutions.
Method
Staff and advanced-level students (master's and doctoral students) at the ten universities in various countries participating in the study will be invited to participate.
Participants will assess the degree of loneliness, well-being, and internet use through a web survey.
Data collection will be conducted in a similar manner at all participating universities.
