      Application for PhD courses

      On this website you will find information on how to apply for PhD courses.

      Apply for the Autumn courses (HT 2025)

      Apply before 1 June by sending an email to antagning@his.se with the following information:

      • Your name
      • Personal civic number
      • Student email
      • Course code
      • Course name

      For doctoral students admitted to doctoral studies at other higher education institutions in Sweden, other Nordic country or a partner university, a certificate from the supervisor (see example, docx) must also be attached.

      If you plan to study more than one course, the application can be made in the same email. 

      Notification of admission is given in June and is sent to your student email.

      University joint courses

      The course below is a joint courses for doctoral students in Informatics and Health Science.

      • IT0951F Popular Science Communication, 5 credits (starts week 45 and and runs to week 12, 2026)

      Informatics

      • IT0919F Scientific Theory in Informatics, 7.5 credits
      • IT0927F Scientific Workshop I, 5 credits
      • IT0917F Industrial Optimization and Decision Analysis, 7.5 credits

       Health Science 

      • HV0903F Health in the Digital Society, 7.5 credits

      Continued process

      After the application deadline, a decision is made on which courses that are to be given, based on the amount of applications on each course. At least three qualified doctoral students are required for a course to be given.

      The Admissions office, then admits and registers the doctoral students at the respective course in Ladok.

      In the cases a course is decided not to be given, the Admissions office will notify the doctoral students who applied for the course, that it has been cancelled and that there will be a possibility to apply for another course, if they fulfil the prerequisites.

      Note that the information on which courses that are planned to be given in the spring semester 2026 is preliminary and can be changed.
