Collaris Network Sweden – UAS for Emergency Response and Civil Protection

Collaris Network Sweden – UAS for Emergency Response and Civil Protection

As part of the European Collaris Network, the Collaris Network Sweden has now been launched, coordinated by the University of Skövde.

The first activity was held on 15 October 2025, in the form of a webinar that brought together practitioners and experts from fire and rescue services, police, regional authorities, academia, and industry. The focus was on how unmanned aerial systems (UAS/UAVs) can support emergency response, rescue operations, and civil protection.

The event attracted a broad mix of participants, all sharing a common goal: to strengthen the effective and safe use of drones in operational contexts.

      Presentations included

      • Christian Carlsson, Greater Gothenburg Fire and Rescue Service – lessons learned from using first responder drones for early situational awareness: traffic accidents, maritime incidents, missing persons, and hazardous materials.
      • Fredrik Edlund, Medelpad Fire and Rescue Service - experiences from the Exchange of Experts workshop in Valabre/Nîmes, focusing on the use of aerial assets in wildfire management.
      • Magnus Kristansson, Västra Götaland Region -  Experience from implementing the first responder drone, providing live video from incident scenes and delivering equipment such as AEDs, and other supplies.
      • Tomas Brodin, Swedish Police – A overview of the national organisation’s extensive use of drones in various operational areas.
      • Marcus Aronsson, Södra Älvsborgs Fire and Rescue service – experiences from recent operations and examples of drone use in hazardous environments.
      • Jonas Fröjmark – presentation of ongoing tests within the MSB project Fire service during heightened readiness, including joint exercises in Kiruna using drones and robots in simulated crisis scenarios.

      Next steps for Collaris Sweden

Collaris Network Sweden will continue to grow with a strong focus on experience sharing, collaboration, and practical development.
Regular webinars will be arranged for quick knowledge exchange, followed by a national conference in spring 2026, where participants will have the opportunity to meet in person, explore specific themes in depth, and take part in live demonstrations.

The pace of technological development is fast — but our shared focus remains on smart and safe use of the tools that is already available.
