      DREAM database

Research Group Cognitive Neuroscience and Philosophy
      Resarch Environment Systems Biology

      Quick Facts

      Full project name

DReam EEG and Mentation (DREAM) database

      Duration

      January 2018 – Ongoing

      Funding and collaboration

Inserm-CNRS, Monash University, Paris Brain Institute, Queen Mary University of London, Sorbonne University

The aim of this project is to establish and maintain an international open database that contains both sleep EEG and associated dream data.

Currently, there are only databases that enable access to dream reports without neurophysiological data, or to neurophysiological sleep data without information on subjective experiences. However, electroencephalography

      EEG studies of dreaming

(EEG) studies of dreaming are an essential paradigm in the investigation of neurocognitive processes of human consciousness during sleep. Yet, they are limited by the number of observations that can be collected per study.

To address these issues, in collaboration with multiple laboratories all over the world and with a core team including Naotsugu Tsuchiya, William Wong and Jennifer Windt (Monash University, Australia), Valdas Noreika (Queen Mary University of London, UK), Thomas Andrillon, Ruben Herzog and Nicolas Decat (Paris Brain Institute, Inserm-CNRS, Sorbonne Université, France), we have set up the DReam EEG and Mentation (DREAM) database which is hosted by Monash University.

      The DREAM Database

The database currently includes 20 datasets and 2649 awakenings with sleep EEG (≥20 s, ≥100 Hz, ≥2 electrodes) up to the time of waking and a standardized dream report classification of the subject’s experience during sleep. The database is expanding as new data is contributed, and it is accessible here: DREAM Database.
