The project consists of a monograph on the philosophical implications of research within moral cognitive neuroscience.
The text analyzes how neuroscientific research on moral thinking and decision-making, moral emotions, empathy and compassion, as well as virtues, is relevant to the philosophical study of existential questions (such as the meaning of life), ethical-normative issues, and the debate on free will and moral responsibility.
The first part of the book contains a discussion of key aspects of life-philosophical theories and philosophical pessimistic approaches that may be influenced by empirical research in moral cognitive neuroscience.
The second part of the book presents and discusses research on the moral brain from a philosophical perspective.
The third part of the book focuses on the potential normative implications that the conclusions from the first and second parts of the book might have.
