The automotive industry is undergoing a technological shift towards electric powertrains. One of the greatest challenges to remaining competitive during this rapid transition is the ability to cost-effectively adapt existing production to manufacture new powertrains.
The project encompasses four areas of work, where the first three contribute to the fourth, which is the ultimate goal: achieving sustainable mass production capability. The areas are collaboration, working methods, laboratory operations, and mass production. Our research is conducted within the third area, laboratory operations. This area focuses on testing technical possibilities and working methods in a real-world environment. The fourth work package, mass production, will focus on developing the capability for efficient and sustainable production.
Centre of Excellence – ASSAR Industrial Innovation Arena
The key to success lies in the project's working methods, with dissemination of project results occurring within the consortium and extending to external stakeholders. A cornerstone of the project is its connection to the ASSAR Industrial Innovation Arena, where a production technology test lab was established during the first two phases of the project. Through focused efforts on research and development of production processes, ASSAR will serve as a "Centre of Excellence," a hub for research initiatives and collaborative development between manufacturers, academic partners, and component suppliers. The focus areas include stators, rotors, inverters, transmissions, complete electric machines, and batteries and energy storage systems for electric power.
