      Research Group Strategic Entrepreneurship
Resarch Environment Organising for Sustainable Development

      Quick Facts

      Full project name

Sustainable profitability and profitable sustainability – Identification and analysis of successful combinations of environmental and competitive strategies in small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises

      Duration

      January 2017 – December 2020

      Funding and collaboration

Jan Wallander and Tom Hedelius Foundation, The Kamprad Family Foundation

The project aims to identify how small manufacturing companies can develop operations characterised by both economic and ecological sustainability. The project involves over 300 companies and focuses on determining the impact of various sustainability strategies on company performance.

The project results indicate that the relationship between environmental efforts and profitability is complex and that engaging in environmental sustainability is by no means a universal solution to improving profitability. At the same time, the project highlights that, and under which circumstances, a number of specific environmental strategies have a positive impact on company performance.
