      Quick Facts

      Full project name

Virtual environment ensures safer testing of human-robot collaboration

      Duration

      April 2015 – March 2020

      Funding and collaboration

      The Knowledge Foundation, Volvo Cars

Robots can pose a safety risk to humans. This project focuses on making it safer to test human-robot interaction by conducting the tests in a virtual environment.

During the project, a physical demonstrator was developed to test speech recognition, haptic control, and augmented reality for collaborating with a robot. This was limited to a single application: assembling a car model. To ensure safety, a collaborative robot with reduced speed was used. Subsequently, the same application was implemented in the VR platform, allowing the same interactions as with the physical demonstrator to be tested for comparison.
