This seminar addresses opportunities, obligations and challenges that all researchers need to handle when data and digital documents are developed, maintained, and archived in different research projects. This seminar is the third in a series of LIM-OS activities (Lock-in, Interoperability, and Long-Term Maintenance for digital assets and software developed and used in research projects) which aim to strengthen the entire research environment at University of Skövde. LIM-OS is conducted in the context of the LIM-IT project (2016-2020), which is financially supported by the Knowledge Foundation.
LIM-OS for sustainable science and digitalisation
With increasing demands for transparency and opportunities for re-use of software and associated digital assets developed and used by researchers and all others involved in research projects at the University of Skövde it is of uttermost importance to address fundamental challenges related to lock-in, interoperability, and long-term maintenance during conduct of research. To address these demands, researchers and research projects may strategically consider: use and development of software provided under open source licences; use of file formats (used for representation of data developed in research projects) which are open file formats; and use and provision of data (developed, used and provided from research projects) provided under open content licences. Realisation of these considerations in research projects will significantly contribute to increased transparency and opportunities for re-use of software and digital assets developed in research.
