STRATUS – AI for climate adaption

Research Group Skövde Artificial Intelligence Lab
      Resarch Environment Informatics

      Quick Facts

      Full project name

AI for climate adaption - methods for creating a more resilient drinking water production and supply

      Duration

      November 2021 – November 2023

      Funding and collaboration

Sandviken Energi, IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute

This project aims to identify, adjust and implement AI methods to improve and create a more resilient drinking water production and distribution, where the operators at the drinking water plants are supported in their decision making processes.

      Climate change makes demands

Climate change will place additional demands as well as increase the costs for drinking water production and distribution in times of drought, flooding and extreme temperatures which can all negatively affect the quality of the water. Critical infrastructure needs to be adapted to meet these climate changes. At a regional and municipality level, the drinking water sustentation is planned for on different time horizons, for example if the water should be taken from water the ground or the surface water of lakes etc, how much chemicals should be added to purify the water and which renovations the water plants need.
