      Guide for guests

      Guide for guests

This page contains information and instructions to facilitate guest visits to the University of Skövde. It includes information for you as a guest, as well as information and recommendations for you as a host at the College.

Information for You as a Guest

Under the three headlines Finding Your Way on Campus, Delivering Lectures/Seminars and Safety, we have collected information you will find useful.

      Finding Your Way on Campus

The campus consists of a number of buildings named with letters. The following have lecture halls:

      • A
      • D
      • E
      • F
      • G
      • H
      • P

On the page Find Your Way on Campus, you can find brief descriptions of each building.

There are fees for Parking at the University. You can pay these fees by downloading the Parkster app.

Parking spaces are marked on the Campus Map (pdf)

Switchboard: local number 0500-448000. International number +46 500-448000

Helpdesk: 0500-448800, for assistance with networks and technology in classrooms.

      Delivering Lectures/Seminars

Prepare by having files locally stored on your computer, such as PowerPoint presentations.

Do not forget to bring your laptop charger!

There are three networks at the College suitable for guests.

      1. If you have an account at HS or another educational institution: connect to the Eduroam network with your account details.
      2. HISGuest network is available for guests without Eduroam accounts. See our connection guide.
      3. SciencePark network is available in Building P. Connect and wait for a webpage to open where you need to accept user rules in order to access this network.

In rooms equipped with a projector and sound system, you connect via HDMI. In some rooms, USB-C is also available. Use only one of these options.

      1. Use the HDMI connection to allow for:
        • Images to projector
        • Computer sound to sound system access(ensure your computer’s sound output is HDMI, see the section "Settings on computer")
      2.  With USB-C connection you will be able to enable:
        • Images to projector
        • Computer sound to sound system access (ensure your computer’s sound output is Extron, see the section "Settings on computer")
        • Camera images into the computer (applies to hybrid rooms)
        • Network access (only applies to College computers)
        • Power supply
        • Control of PowerPoint via a "clicker"

Classrooms vary in terms of equipment for images, sound input, sound output, and camera. See our list of the College’s classrooms and their features, or contact your host for details.

      Windows

Find sound settings in the toolbar at the bottom of the desktop, under the speaker icon.

Screen sharing: press Windows key + P. Choose to duplicate or extend the screen.

      Macintosh

Adjust sound and image settings in ControlCenter, in the system menu at the top right.

Click on sound or image to make your choices for sound input and output. Screen duplication or extension to multiple screens.

Restarting is the first step in troubleshooting. Turn off and on the room’s technology and restart your computer. See Support below if problems persist.

The College has a number of classrooms adapted for hybrid seminars. This means that participants are both present in the room and via a digital meeting room.

Therefore, the rooms are equipped with cameras and extra monitors.

      Hybrid classrooms

      • The hybrid classroom in D201 allows for easy access to the digital room. Your computer only needs to be connected to display any PowerPoint or other content on your computer.
      • Other hybrid rooms use your computer for the digital room. You need to have Zoom installed along with a USB-C connection to connect to the room’s equipment: camera, sound, and image.

The University uses Zoom as its platform for online meetings and online teaching. Your host will provide you with a link to the appropriate Zoom room.

It is recommended to use Zoom software for computers. Go to his-se.zoom.us to download Zoom and user guides.

      Safety

Inform students about evacuation routes in the rooms you teach in.

It is important that the correct post-evacuation assembly point is known and respected – this will ensure that safety checks can be conducted, to confirm everyone has been evacuated safely.

In case of security issues including threats to personal safety, call: Emergency Services 112

For issues involving access to buildings: Avarn security company: 010-210 90 00

Avarn handles lock routines on doors after office hours for a fee.

You can reach the University’s crisis organization via your host and host department.

Information for You as a Host

The department or division that invites the guest holds the primary responsibility for their visit and assignment. Appoint a contact person who will act as a host for the individual guest.

      Points to Consider

Room reservations are made by the department/division. Note that different rooms have different setups. If the guest is working in a hybrid situation, it is recommended to use the University’s hybrid rooms:

      • D105
      • D107
      • D201
      • E105
      • G110
      • G327

Remember to book time before the event for technical preparation by your guest.

To reserve a room, contact schedule@his.se

It is possible to prebook technical support before a classroom event. Book a time via helpdesk@his.se at least one week before the guest visit.

The following information should be provided to the guest early on.

      • Contact person/host
      • Payment/invoicing. How the guest is paid and the agreed sum
      • Link to this guide
      • Ensuring that guests have learning material, including PowerPoint presentations, on a USB drive or locally stored on their computer

The University's policy for data security means that a guest's computer:

      • cannot be connected to a wired network (Ethernet). Guests are referred to the wireless guestnet or, for those with an authority account, to Eduroam
      • must have a USB-C connection to use technology in hybrid rooms
      • must have an HDMI output to present images in all rooms

The University’s parking lots are fee-based. Parking is and is managed by Parkster, available as an app download.
