      Quick Facts

      Full project name

Turning the power – a megagame for increased understanding of the energy system

      Duration

      October 2021 – December 2024

      Funding and collaboration

Swedish Energy Agency, Linköping University, Jönköping University

The goal of this project is to create a platform that enables increased, multi-perspectival understanding of energy systems, society, environment, and climate.

Energy systems are complex, with a range of stakeholders and conflicting aims. A pedagogical challenge is to increase mutual understanding among relevant actors from a systems perspective.

This project develops a simulation-based megagame and implement six play tests. The megagame simulates a county, its power relations, events, and values connected to the region's needs, production capabilities, and consequences for the environment and climate.

The game's format provides a customizable platform that facilitates dialog and in-depth understanding. The megagame is developed iteratively, creating interactive opportunities for 20-100 participants. Participants must manage tensions arising between their goals of creating a sustainable energy system, and the expectations of the county's citizens, government agencies, and businesses.
