Ahmed Mohamed from Egypt is studying the final semester of the Master's programme in Molecular Biotechnology at the University of Skövde. Yesterday, he was in Stockholm to receive the Global Swede Award during a formal ceremony.
For the ninth year, the Global Swede Award is distributed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Swedish Institute. During yesterday's ceremony in Stockholm, about twenty international students from different Swedish universities received a Global Swede diploma, which was awarded by Gabriella Augustsson from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ahmed Mohamed is currently studying his final semester on the Master's programme Molecular Biotechnology. In the nomination for the University's Global Swede 2019, Ahmed is described as polite, humble, helpful and friendly. He is highly appreciated by his fellow students and has completed his courses with outstanding grades.
– Receiving this award is a great honor for me and a good sign that I am on the right track, where I should go all out. The ceremony was surreal, it had everything from inspirational people and speeches to heavenly music.
Ahmed has been studying in Skövde for two years, getting his master’s degree. He chose to study at the University of Skövde based on the previous study experience of one of his friends here.
– My study time in Skövde, as short as it was, was a big success for me. It gave me the chance to interact with a lot of different cultures, broaden my knowledge and social network, plus getting the chance to see how Sweden acts toward global crises as climate change and water sustainability, giving a leading example to other countries to follow.
Global Swede is part of the Government's and the Swedish Institute's long-term relationship building with international students in Sweden. The students have distinguished themselves in innovation and entrepreneurship, and the hope is that they will continue their relationship with Sweden even after graduation.
