INGENIUM got Alicia involved in international work

      Published 6 May 2024

Alicia Larsson took part in INGENIUM's very first Junior Summer School in June 2023. The week in Germany was the start of an international commitment. Now she is the Secretary of the INGENIUM Student Advisory Board and represents students from ten different countries. Soon it's off to Romania to attend the Academic Committee of the INGENIUM European Campus as a student representativ.

      Alicia Larsson, Student Advisory Board

That Alicia Larsson applied to the INGENIUM Junior Summer School was mostly a coincidence. But the fact that she participated in INGENIUM's Summer School has clearly been of great importance to her. The week at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Science, HKA, not only brought new experiences and friends, but also led her, when she came back to the University of Skövde, to get more involved in INGENIUM. Now she is on the Student Advisory Board.

“The board includes representatives from all ten universities within INGENIUM. We have just recently started our work, but have already talked a lot about how we can represent students within the alliance and spread information about INGENIUM. We are also assigned to give feedback on work done in the work packages as well as arrange and plan activities for students,” says Alicia.

Alicia is secretary and compiles the meeting agenda, takes notes and ensures that the meeting participants receive the decisions.

“We have meetings every two weeks and we have very good discussions. It is important to share each other's experiences.

      In a different role

She is soon packing her suitcase to go to Romania and INGENIUM's second Junior Summer School. Last year she participated in the Summer School programme, now she is instead one of those who represent all of INGENIUM's students within the university alliance and will work with questions concerning the Alliance. At Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iaşi, she will attend the Academic Committee of the INGENIUM European Campus as a student representative.

“I love doing this and I would prefer to work full-time with it. At the University of Skövde, I have also been involved in board work. I was responsible for education on the board of Vitae – Student union section for students within the School of Bioscience and the School of Health Sciences. I think the work done in a board is really cool. I have also gotten to know so many other students from different countries and it is incredibly fun.”

There is no doubt that Alicia is really passionate about her mission and she sees great opportunities with the cross-border collaboration. From Ireland in the west to Finland in the east, from Sweden in the north to Greece in the south, INGENIUM brings together over 170,000 students. The EU-project aims, among other things, to offer joint educations, o raise focus both on work with sustainable development and research.

“It is great fun to have the opportunity to get to know and meet students from nine other universities and get an insight into different cultures. We for sure have a lot to learn from each other. So, an important question for me is how to make mobility, for students between different universities, easier. Shorter exchanges can also facilitate and create conditions for students who have children or different functional variations that make longer trips difficult.”

      Off to Spain and Ireland

This summer, Alicia in her role as member of the board, is going to the University in Oviedo during an exchange. She notes that it will be a good opportunity to share other students' experiences and hear their opinions before the board's work with future exchanges within the alliance.

You will within shortly get your Bachelor's degree in Cognitive Neuroscience – Neuropsychology and Consciousness Studies. What happens next?

“I will continue my studies and do an exchange year in Ireland. The plan is to continue representing the University of Skövde in the Student Advisory Board during the time I study abroad. INGENIUM is a project for the future, it has many possibilities and the academic world has an extensive part in collaboration across borders.”
