It is time for the spring semester's new students to be welcomed to the University of Skövde. The introduction for international students begins on January 15. For national students, the introduction begins on January 20. Teaching students from the University of Borås, who study on campus in Skövde, will also participate in the welcome activities.
On Wednesday, January 15, the introduction for the University of Skövde's new international students begins. This semester, the University welcomes around 70 new international students, both exchange students and programme students. They come from France, India and Italy, among others.
During the international introduction, much focus is on ensuring that students feel welcome at the University and on campus. With support from the buddies, the new students receive information about the University, about Skövde, about Sweden and about various experiences they cannot miss during their studies.
“This year we have 18 sponsors for the international introduction, which is significantly more than last year. This indicates that our existing students see the value in meeting this group of students,“ says Frida Lindgren, International Coordinator.
The welcome programme offers experiences such as "Swedish fika", a meeting with "the Mayor of Skövde" Monica Green and a bus tour to show off the environment in and around Skövde. Erasmus Student Network Skövde also arranges activities, such as a visit to a moose park.
On January 20, the introduction for the new national students will begin. This spring semester, 200 people will begin programme studies at the University of Skövde. Of these, 60 will study to become teachers through the University of Borås. In addition, 2,000 people will begin independent courses, where the University has increased the number of places by approximately 1,000 compared to the spring semester last year.
The introduction starts with a welcoming ceremony on campus, but the welcome will also be held digitally for those studying remotely. The programmes that start during the spring semester include the Nursing Programme, Ecology and Sustainable Development, and the Master's Programme in Biomedicine. During the introduction days, students have the opportunity to get to know their peers and familiarise themselves with the University.
“The introduction is a bright spot in the winter darkness. It is usually fantastic and exciting days when we welcome our new students to the University and to Skaraborg,” says Frida Lindgren.
Students who are studying to become teachers, on campus in Skövde, but via the University of Borås, also have their introduction during these days.
